SCE FAQ

Question linkHow do I sign up for the Smart Energy Program?
  • First, confirm your eligibility for the Smart Energy Program by answering these three questions.
    1. Are you a SCE residential customer and have a smart meter?
    2. Do you use your thermostat to control your central air conditioning?
    3. Will you allow SCE to make short, low impact thermostat adjustments on high energy usage days?
  • If you confirm these three questions, please choose whether you have an internet-connected thermostat to enroll in the Smart Energy Program or if you would like to purchase an existing thermostat.

  • If you have an existing thermostat, please select your thermostat among the eligible models. If you don’t have an existing eligible thermostat, please choose a model, purchase and install it. Once you have installed and activated, come back to enroll your new thermostat in the Smart Energy Program.
  • Click the Enroll Now button to go to your thermostat’s enrollment site, where you’ll follow a series of simple steps to enroll. The applicant’s name must match the name on your SCE electricity account or be an authorized party on your SCE electricity account.
  • Once your eligibility is confirmed, you will be enrolled in the program. You will receive an email notification on your eligibility status.
  • You must receive service under rate schedule D, D-CARE, D-FERA, TOU-D or TOU-D-T

You must not be enrolled in any of the following programs, rate plans or services to be a part of the Smart Energy Program:

  • Demand Response programs or rates offered by Non-Utility Demand Response Service Providers

Question linkWill participating in the program negatively impact my home’s comfort?

By participating in the program, you are signing up for brief, limited adjustments to your home’s thermostat. These adjustments will only affect the temperature of your home by a few degrees, with minimal impact on comfort. And you can easily opt out of an event at any time, for any reason.

Question linkHow do I collect the $75 enrollment incentive?

You will receive your one-time rebate of $75 in the form of bill credits.

Question linkWhat is the participation incentive?

Throughout each year you participate and qualify for an incentive in the Smart Energy Program, the credits will appear on your next SCE electric bill. You can receive $40 in bill credits plus $0.07 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) reduced. SCE will compare your usage during the adjustments to the 3 highest usage days for the previous 5 days during the same timeframe.
